MD Podiatrist Discusses Pre-Diabetes and Peripheral Neuropathy

After a review and meta-analysis of the scientific literature, a research group in the UK recently published a paper in the journal Diabetes reporting an estimated 18% prevalence of peripheral neuropathy in pre-diabetics.

“The correlation between pre-diabetes and peripheral neuropathy is not generally well recognized. In fact, a study from the University of Utah found that 40% of people diagnosed as having idiopathic neuropathy actually had pre-diabetes. With approximately 100 million pre-diabetics in the U.S., these results are of great significance to practitioners who treat peripheral neuropathy,” said Dr. Daniel D. Michaels of Hagerstown and Frederick, MD.
