Compression socks can also help prevent some spider and varicose vein formation, if worn over a longer period of time, experts told us. Many people find them helpful during pregnancy, too. Keep in mind that compression socks should not be worn overnight, Dr. Michaels said. They’re designed to be worn during the day because when you lay down at night, swelling in your legs, ankles, and feet naturally decreases.
