Lack of Protection of Feet in Summer Leads to More Injuries: MD Podiatrist

Giving our feet a little fresh air by breaking out the sandals and flip-flops is one of the joys of summer. Yet, experts say some of our favorite summer shoes can also be pretty rough on our feet.

“Generally, people have more problems with their feet during the warm summer months because they’re more active but wear less supportive shoes or go barefoot," says Daniel D. Michaels, DPM, a podiatrist with the Reconstructive Foot & Ankle Institute, LLC. "We see injuries, from cuts and scrapes to infections and broken bones, because our feet just aren’t as protected.”
